Welcome...

I'm Chuck Charles. I named this site Chippewa Marine in part to honor my Dad, Harry L. Charles, a Chippewa Indian who attended Carlisle Indian School in Carlisle, Pa from 1911-17. The name also comes from the fact that I spent almost 30 years in the United States Marine Corps, retiring in 1985 as a MGySgt (Master Gunnery Sergeant).

So, on this site you will find information about my ancestry, some of my personal history, and my military career. I also have pages about my beautiful bride, Cheryl; our pups, Chiisai and Shadow; and our extensive travels throughout the United States and abroad. In addition, I've got lots of information on my hobbies and interests - specifically aviation and the experimental airplane I built and flew called a VariEze (designed by Burt Rutan, the man responsible for the Voyager, Global Flyer, Starship, and the first civilian space ship ever - SpaceShipOne).

I am making this website just to let friends and relatives know what we have been doing and also to practice website-building techniques.

I hope you enjoy your visit! Feel free to check back often as I update and add more pages, photos, and videos to my site.

06/18/2008: This year my bride, Cheryl, is running in the 33rd Annual Marine Corps Marathon as part of Team Running Strong. The goal is to raise money to fight poverty and need in Indian Country. To learn more about why she's doing this - and perhaps donate - please click the link on the left of this page (or go to www.FirstGiving.com/CherylCharles). Any amount you can give is greatly appreciated!
